Turn an everyday essential into something pretty! This quick-to-knit tissue packet holder pouch uses just a small amount of yarn and comes together fast, making it perfect for last-minute gifts, stocking stuffers, or a satisfying one-sitting project. Slip a standard tissue packet inside and suddenly something ordinary feels thoughtful, cozy, and handmade. Knit one for yourself, then keep going—they’re irresistible for gifting and a great way to use up those special scraps you’ve been saving.
This pattern is actually two patterns in one: You can choose to make this tissue packet holder using stockinette stitch or the Mermaid Scales stitch.
Yarn: Fingering/ sock yarn. You will need approximately 12 - 13 grams for the stockinette pouch and 14 - 15 grams for the Mermaid Scales pouch.
Gauge: 28 sts and 36 rows to 4"/ 10 cm in stockinette stitch
Needle size for stockinette pouch: US #3/3.25 mm, or size needed to achieve gauge.
Needle size for Mermaid Scales pouch: Size needed to achieve gauge, plus a needle 2 sizes larger.
The pouch is worked flat.
Yarn selection:
The Mermaid Scales stitch is easy to learn and fun to work - and it really brings out all the tones in a beautiful yarn. If you’ve got yarn with a little sparkle, you’ll really see those sparkles!
The stockinette version is perfect for yarns with highly contrasting colors or a lot of speckling - the streamlined design lets your yarn be the star. A solid color gives it a classic, classy vibe.
Difficulty: Beginner.
The stockinette pouch uses just knit and purl stitches. The Mermaid Scales pouch has a novel stitch pattern, but it’s explained in the pattern, including photos. The small nature of the project makes it an easy win even for a less experienced knitter.
Pattern support: My email is included in the pattern in case you have questions.
