Sunny Side Up Shawl
• Beginner lace • One skein of fingering/sock yarn •
The second shawl in my “Eggs for Dinner” series, Sunny Side Up features stitch patterns that are as simple and satisfying as, well, eggs for dinner!
Sunny Side Up is a crescent-shaped shawl designed for a single beautiful skein of fingering/sock-weight yarn. It alternates sections of easy mesh with simple lace on a stockinette background.
Pattern features:
• The shawl begins with a mesh section that is specifically designed to avoid the dreaded "hump" that many crescent shawls suffer from.
• Simple stitch patterns make this appropriate for those new to lace knitting.
• Easy to block - perfect for your first shawl.
• Designed for one skein, the pattern includes options to knit a larger shawl if you have more yarn.
• Simple construction: The shawl starts by casting on just a few stitches and grows from there; it does not require a garter tab cast-on or picking up stitches.
• Detailed, easy to follow instructions: The stitch patterns have short repeats so that they are easy to follow and memorize, and the pattern includes close-up photos of each stitch.
* With stitch counts provided every time there is a change, you won’t worry about whether you’re on track – you’ll know!
• Helpful tips: The pattern includes instructions for correcting a missed yarn over (we all make mistakes!), links for fixing a dropped edge stitch, and links for using lifelines, which make it much easier to go back and fix your knitting, if necessary.
• The pattern includes charts as well as written instructions.
This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knitted to give you a smooth, error-free knitting experience.
Size: Approximately 60”/150 cm inside edge, 82"/205 cm outside edge, 16"/40 cm depth, after blocking.
Gauge/Tension: 24 stitches and 28 rows to 4”/ 10 cm in stockinette stitch, blocked. Getting exact gauge is not tremendously important, but if your gauge differs, the finished size and yarn usage may vary.
Supplies
Yarn: Fingering/sock-weight yarn, one 100-gram skein (approximately 400 - 415 yards/365 - 380 meters).
Needles: US 6/4.0 mm or size needed to achieve gauge.
Notions: 18 - 36 stitch markers; tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Many thanks to the fabulous test knitters of this pattern!
