Child (adult S, M, L)
Finished circumference, measured 1” above brim: 17 (19, 21, 23)“/ 42.5 (47.5, 52.5, 57.5) cm
To fit heads up to 19 (21, 23, 25)”/ 47.5 (52.5, 57.5, 62.5) cm
Hat height: 8 (9, 9.5, 10)“/ 20 (22.5, 23.5, 25) cm
Cowl dimensions: 44"/110 cm circumference and 6"/15 cm wide.
Difficulty: Beginner. The stitch pattern is easy to learn. The hat and cowl are worked in the round. Skills: knit, purl, slip, and for hat, k2tog.
Gauge: 16 sts and 20 rows to 4"/10 cm in stockinette stitch
Yarn for hat: Approximately 60 (75, 90, 105) grams bulky yarn(also known as 12-ply or chunky depending on your region). The sample was worked with Malabrigo Mecha, a 100% wool yarn with 130 yards/ 100 grams.
Yarn for cowl: Approximately 150 grams/190 yards/175 meters of bulky yarn. The sample was worked with Malabrigo Mecha, a 100% wool yarn with 130 yards/ 100 grams, in the color Arco Iris.
Needles: US 10/6.0 mm and US 9/5.5 mm circular needles or size needed to achieve gauge plus one size smaller.
A 32" circular needle was used for the cowl sample.
For the hat, a 16”/40 cm circular needle will be comfortable for all but the child size. For the child size, and for all sizes as tthe number of stitches decreases at the crown, you will need dpns or a long circular needle, if you prefer the Magic Loop method.
